CHANEL MELBOURNE
CHANEL MELBOURNE
CLIENT:
Mariner Group (in association with Chanel)
LOCATION:
140 Flinders Lane Melbourne, VIC
DURATION:
64 Weeks
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project involved the transformation of the former Scientology building on one of the busiest corners of Melbourne CBD (corner Flinders Lane and Russell Street) for the new Chanel headquarters in Melbourne.
The re-birth of the late 1800's bank building involved significant structural alterations, extension and then high end refurbishment in line with strict brand requirements of Chanel. The complicated construction works required a lateral approach working up and down at the same time with multiple work faces operating simultaneously with strict management logistics to meet tight time frames.
The project scope included structural alteration of the building to demolish internal load bearing walls creating open retail space, construction of a new basement within the existing footprint and addition of the new extension to provide roof terrace and function area. The existing heritage façade was retained with enlargement and installation of new steel framed windows and feature Juliet balconies and the controlled refurbishment of the façade with mineral paint finishes.
The resulting six level building will be multifaceted in its use, and includes high end retail space, specialised training facilities, staff room and offices, secure storage and exclusive entertaining areas.
